On Sunday, February 18, 2018, at approximately 8:55 pm, Brunswick Police officers were dispatched to the 2200 block of Woodland Way in reference to a shots fired call. While enroute, dispatchers advised officers that a person had been shot at the location. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the victim, Mary Fleming, 52, of Brunswick. Preliminary investigation revealed that Mrs. Fleming was traveling to the residence when her pickup truck was struck by gunfire and she sustained a gunshot to the back. Mrs. Fleming was transported to the Southeast Georgia Health System, Brunswick Campus, where she was treated and released. A Chevrolet Trailblazer parked in the area was also damaged by gunfire. This is an on-going investigation and no further details are available at this time. Detectives are asking that anyone with any additional information about this incident to contact Det. On Monday, February 19, 2018, at approximately 3:35 p.m., officers responded to the Sidney Lanier Bridge on Highway 17 South in reference to childbirth inside of a vehicle. Upon arriving at the vehicle, officers made contact with the mother and the newborn. As Officer Martin Davis, Officer Andrew Blair, and Officer Stephen Kretchsmar stood by waiting for emergency medical services, the infant’s heart stopped beating. Officer Davis was able to revive the infant by performing two finger chest compressions. The mother and newborn were both transported to the Southeast Georgia Health System, Brunswick Campus.
